Colgate toothpaste poisoned

By Jason Spence | June 20, 2007

It was announced last week that Colgate has found instances of counterfeit toothpaste containing poison. I checked all the toothpaste in my house and was grateful that we didn’t have any poison. Even though Colgate didn’t distribute these counterfeits, they are issuing the recall and helping consumers get the original product. This does affect the company I work for in that we take the 800 number phone calls for Colgate customer service. We got bombarded late last week with calls and many of our departments had to scramble to make the necessary accommodation’s. It has started to die down, but it got exciting at work there for a few days.

This just in about this poisoned toothpaste. . . 4 out of 5 dentist recommend not using the poisoned version. (that 5th dentist died of toothpaste poisoning)

Television Corporate Advertising on the Golf Course

By Jason Spence | June 17, 2007

This post could go on my sports blog, but it fits just as nicely on this one. I’ve seen marketing banners behind home plate and along the fence in baseball games. If you didn’t know, many of these banners aren’t really there, they are place there for only the television viewers. I’m sitting here watching the U.S. Open and realize that they could put these same advertisements along the fairways. They would get plenty of airtime while we watch each drive. I, myself, would probably get sick of the onslaught of advertisements. In order to implement this, they should make a game out of it. Hide a symbol, kinda like a Waldo, in these advertisements. If you see the “Waldo”, go to a website and enter the hole you saw him on and to be eligible for a prize. Just a thought.

Agloco Ease of Use

By Jason Spence | June 16, 2007

Not too long ago, I posted that the Agloco viewbar was released. Today, I’m here to tell you that the viewbar is non-intrusive and easy to use. It takes up no more space on your desktop than the start bar. It is also easy to reach the max browse time of 5 hours. I did it in just a couple evenings of blogging. That’s the on bad thing about the viewbar; it gives us a limit of 5 hours per month. I’m still not sure if they will get to the point of paying anything out, but for the time being, I don’t see any harm in running this viewbar. If you are in the mood of giving them a try, join my Agloco network.

Easy way to generate web traffic

By Jason Spence | June 15, 2007

There is a simple way to generate lots of traffic to your site, and it’s called StumbleUpon. I looked at this site about 2 years ago, but disregarded it immediately. I don’t remember why, but I am now regretting it. Yesterday, I submitted one of my sites to get stumbled; today I saw my highest page visit day in the blogs 2 1/2 month existence. A majority of it was due to other people just stumbling my site, but the next largest demographic was visits finding my site after I visited theirs. You see, I didn’t just submit my site to get stumbled, I also began stumbling other sites. I found many interesting blogs that I hadn’t read before. I felt compelled to comment on many of them. Those bloggers, in turn, visited my site. This may show my geekiness, but this was very exciting to me. Another impressive statistic for these new visitors is that my bounce rate has decreased to about 55%. A bounce rate of 100% means that every visitor left your site after visiting only 1 page. A bounce rate of 0% means that everyone visited at least 2 pages. For a new blog, that is beginning to attract visitors, a low bounce rate is better. It shows that visitors find something interesting and feel compelled to read more. So the moral of this post is that StumbleUpon can be a valuable tool to attract new vistors.

PayPerPost Rocks!

By Jason Spence | June 13, 2007

I’ll be completely up-front with you here; I am NOT getting paid for this post. What is prompting me to write about PayPerPost then? I have been getting paid to blog on Bliss99 for over 4 months now and have been paid over $300, but what is prompting this post is a package I got in the mail today. A few weeks ago, I put together a sponsored post about the Police. I apparently didn’t read the fine print, which stated that 50% of the posties that claimed that opportunity would receive a parcel including the new Police CD, a PayPerPost t-shirt, a small tin of mints, a big foam PayPerPost finger, and some green goo that I haven’t figured out yet exactly what it is. So, since I got surprised by todays parcel, I felt obligated to blog about it. You too can become a postie for PayPerPost by clicking my affiliate badge here:

ReviewBack

By Jason Spence | June 10, 2007

Are you struggling to get your blog name out there and attract visitors? One great way to gain popularity is to get another site to review yours. You could go the ReviewMe (aff) route and pay someone to write a review about your site. If you’re like me, you would rather pay nothing to get a review. If that’s the case, check out ReviewBack. They allow you to submit your blog to their “marketplace” and/or select a blog to swap reviews with. My only word of warning on taking this route, is to be careful how many and who you exchange reviews with. Meaning, if your blog is about sports, don’t exchange a review with a site about dating. I’ve submitted this blog and BlissLogs into this service and hope to find some other good sites to exchange reviews with.

Agloco Viewbar Released

By Jason Spence | June 6, 2007

That’s right, Agloco has finally released their ad viewbar. The only thing is. . . they don’t have any ads on it yet. Even so, they say we can still begin accumulating browse time by running the viewbar. If you still are unsure what the Agloco Viewbar is, where have you been the last few months? :-) Seriously though, I won’t bore you with the long explanation; but the quick one is: Agloco pays you to surf the web, up to 5 hours a day, as long as you are running their viewbar. This viewbar takes very little space on your desktop and will display ads. It seams to be a pretty simple way to make a little money. It is another form of viral marketing in that the more people you refer, the more you can make. I don’t know how much I will make from this service, but I don’t see how I can ignore it. If you’re worried that this viewbar will bog down your system, it is currently using 0% processor and 15Mb RAM. So what do you have to lose? Follow this link to sign up for Agloco yourself.

RSS Advertisements

By Jason Spence | June 6, 2007

I’ve realized another way to add some advertising to this blog. This time, I’d be willing to be that you would hardly realize what I’ve done if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m telling you in this post. This blog was accepted into Text Link Ads (aff) about a month ago. I added the plugin and the code and forgot about it. I decided to login the other day to see if they had anything else to offer. It turns out that they not only sell ad space on your blog to other advertisers, they also offer the option for you to create your own custom ad to place in your RSS feed. They call this feature Feedvertising. They make it extremely easy to setup. You have the option of rotating from 1 to 6 customs adds in your feeds. The perfect use of this custom advertisement is to taught your affiliate sales options. Another evil option is to use your Text Link Ads affiliate link in these ads. Let me know if you have any questions on this topic.

WordPress Upgrade and New Adsense Plugin

By Jason Spence | May 30, 2007

I warned you that I would be using this blog as my guinea pig site. Tonight, I did 2 things that fall into that category.

First, I upgraded this blog to WordPress 2.2. That upgrade was made simple with the use of Fantastico. That feature of my hosting company, HostMonster (aff), allowed me to do a 1 click upgrade. That 1 click took care of the initial wordpress backup and the upgrade to the new version. So far, this upgrade seems fairly painless. Everything seems to be working just fine. If your host gives you the option to use Fantastico for your installs and upgrades, I highly recommend it for the fact that it makes all tasks, even the simple ones, extremely simple. On another note, the new widgets feature looks pretty cool, but will take me some time to get used to. I was sort of enjoying the opportunity to edit the code.

Next, I installed the AdSense Manager Plugin. This Plugin has many features that make adding AdSense Ads to your site super easy. Don’t believe me? I will add a banner right in the middle of this post with a couple clicks of the mouse.

Looks pretty cool huh? Now, I can create many different AdSense templates within the plugin and place each one of those templates anywhere I want on this blog. I am very interested to see if these ads generate any revenue.

The Link Exchange

By Jason Spence | May 13, 2007

I got an email today requesting a link exchange for a site promoting credit cards, of which I turned them down. This got me thinking as to if I should be accepting these requests and also to give you todays Marketing Tips. I turned them down because I would like to see what kind or organic growth the site can get as opposed to manufactured links. Another reason I turned them down was because I know Google adjusts its rankings based on the quality of the site linking to you. A sight that shows signs of simply exchanging links for no other reason than to acquire links for better rankings is going to be less valuable than those links from sites that share similar interests. Albeit, sharing a link from this requester would have been more valuable than a link exchange with a porn site as far as page rank value goes, that porn site would probably generate more traffic to your site. :-)

When considering exchanging links with other sites, keep these points in mind. You may have to ask yourself what you expect to get out of this exchange and whether that site would help you accomplish those goals.
